We’re pleased to unveil a slightly different type of patch to our usual offerings this month.

The British Columbia Highway Patrol (BCHP) is a team of highly skilled law enforcement officers who operate with specialist sniffer dogs as part of the elite Police Dog Service (PDS) in Canada.

This patch features plenty of hidden gems, including the paw prints and major road map in the background, plus the sun from the BC flag. The lottery balls allude to the element of chance which plays a part in their job, but these also contain the numbers of the major highways on which the BCHP operate.

These dog handlers and their ‘canine officers’ are trained to perfection by the prestigious Roving Traffic Police Dog Service in Innisfail, Alberta. Handlers and their partners undergo rigorous training and yearly assessments to remain at the top of their game.

Whether locating evidence, identifying impaired drivers, detecting narcotics or tracking down suspects, these four-legged officers are on the front lines keeping British Columbia a safer place to live. As such, it has been a privilege to develop this patch for them as a celebration of the work they do.
